Our Story

Forty years of hospitality, one family.

Long before Citron opened on Quarry Lake, Charles Levine was learning the hospitality business from the ground up at Baltimore's Pimlico Hotel. That early education became the foundation for a career spanning more than 40 years and roughly 14,000 catered events for clients including five U.S. presidents, the NFL, the Rolling Stones, and Oprah Winfrey.

In 1985, Charles founded Citron Caterers, building an off-premise catering operation that continues to serve Maryland, Washington DC, and Northern Virginia. Three decades later, in November 2016, Charles and his wife Susan opened Citron Baltimore: a waterfront restaurant and event venue at Quarry Lake built to bring that same standard of hospitality under one roof, with a seasonal scratch kitchen, full sushi bar, and a wine program that has since become one of the region's most decorated.

From 2019 through 2025, Citron earned the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence seven years running. In November 2026, Citron celebrates its 10th anniversary on the water, a milestone the Levine family marks the same way it marked the first: with family, food, and the people who have made Citron part of their own celebrations.

    Charles Levine founds Citron Caterers, launching a 30+ year off-premise catering business.

    Nearly 14,000 events catered for clients including five U.S. presidents, the NFL, the Rolling Stones, and Oprah.

    Citron earns the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence seven consecutive years, plus a FINE WINE World's Best honor in 2025.
